Great report Phil, I thoroughly agree with your comments.

The 33 mile route was a tough option. I chose it because 1. It went through Devizes (where I could get provisions from my family). 2. I thought it wouldn't be much more effort than the London Marathon (how much more difficult could 7 miles be?).

This was a very different animal than London, the wind was gusting up to 50 mph, it was raining, muddy and massively hilly (2,140ft of climbing).

I had adopted a nutritional strategy of cheese & pickle sandwiches, jaffa cakes and weak orange squash, which seemed to serve me well.

Probably the most difficult part was reaching Avebury (27 miles) knowing I had to climb up over the Ridgeway to Fyfield with legs that I could hardly lift.

Really pleased to finish, great bunch of runners and marshalls, and thoroughly recommended.

I'll be back next year.

Oh, I think I finished in about 5:45, time was not important, it was for the experience of my first Ultra, (it was an Ultra Running
Championship event.)
