Sometimes it does not matter how many time you are told that it is going to be very very muddy it is still shocking to see what you are expected to run through.

The up hills and down hills were expected lung busters and managed with a small amount of style if not speed.  The flat boggy open fields were a tribute to the Somme. Potatoes were taking root in the tread of my shoes by the time I dragged my heavy legs to the next swamp. The thigh deep puddles were a small relief from the mud. Both Louise and Kerry put in valiant eforts despite decided that swimming was a better tactic as they took a dive but still missed out on the prize of the day for dirtiest finisher. One foot out of place and I managed a short rest on my back. Billy and his mates at the front must have taken a wrong turn somewhere as there is no way he would do that time great had he stayed on the mud with the rest of us.

All in all a well orgnised and great fun event. I would recommend it but not in your best kit. Bring on 'Roungh 'n' Tunble.

Is anyone interested in some beginners off road running in Savernake at the weekends?
