Hope you are all well. Hope those who swam last week enjoyed the change of structure and that you are all practising kicking for this weekend.... MLC staff were pleased that there were a few cookies remaining from the session and that we'll be in again this week.
Swimming is on Saturday 11 October, 5-6 p.m. at MLC. There is a gala following so let's hope we have the gala lane ropes out.
Cricklade half marathon was a good challenge. Wakin at 8 on Sunday and seeing the rain POURING down was not an auspicious start but we continued on with the plan (porridge), no tea, lots of water. Turned out to be not a bad day for a run - mild, light breeze, not that much rain really.
Would have to argue the case for flat run vs hilly run. I found I had to be aware all the way round at Cricklade as to how I was progressing. No watch (Phil had that!) so running on perceived exertion! Dead chuffed at 8 miles, hanging in there until 11 and then my legs fell off! The man who passed me then saying it was all in the mind, needed to check out my legs!!
Had no idea where Phil was but banked on the fact that he would have started slowly and built up for his sprint over the last mile. I was waiting to hear his happy footsteps as we came home.
Was so pleased to get back to the sports centre but had no idea where exactly the finish was. Could feel my heart sinking to my wet feet as we turned onto the sports field and though we had a lap around it. Happy pick up when I saw the finish line just there! Fantastic!
best things:
Good effort, run with a high level of suffering. Must be good for me...?
Seeing everyone during the morning - a very worrying shade of blue post race finish.
No injuries!
Running from the race nutter - over exertion between miles 5-9!
Good apple cake after!
Extra vigorous heating in the car (well, the driver's seat was fantastic!)
Not sure what's next. Any ideas??
See you Saturday.
Sarah.
