Yes - great race and some excellent results from Sarah and Abi, well done you two, some fantastic splits.

Very happy with my results, I was lucky with the weather during my race as it stayed dry during the bike, although the road was very slippy, so I was very wary of that.
It did rain on my run, so there was no chance of over heating! it was mega slippery and more like speed skating than running.

Great photos on website, particularly the team photo of us all watching the magic cup rising from the ground!

Thanks Jon

And thanks very much to all of the MAD people cheering on top of the sports centre when I came in on the run - that was by far the best sprint finish experience I've ever had (beat the hell out of my Ironman finish too!).

Looking at the results and realise I STILL have a way to go in cutting down my transition times and will be taking Sarah's advice re swim technique - but no disasters to re-count this time and relieved that the ironman training hasn't totally taken away my ability to speed up a bit for shorter events.

Bath is well organised and challenging.  Not sure which had the worst surface - the bike (very bumpy and pock-marked roads in places) or the run (off-road) but that's beyond the organisers control.  At least the swim wasn't too choppy although the guy in front of me in the orange cap clearly hadn't read the rules about stopping at the end when the person behind taps your feet which led to a bit of a collision!  I think the other guys who did the race will agree it does challenge your confidence in the pool at times.

Hugh - really sorry about the 3 seconds - but sure you can think of a number of places to shave those off for next time!

=============================

I'd agree with the rest of the guys it was well organised and challenging.

I arrived and it was raining hard, and I was within an inch of getting back in the car and going home, that was until I saw Hugh (looking as miserable as I felt), and Jon (as cheerful as ever).

The swim
Was OK, got bored half way through looking at the lines in the pool, and other peoples backsides. My only complaint was the amount of "ringers" in my lane (people swimming off the wrong swim time). I understand people may get quicker after entering but.....? I went off first (32 min lane), and by the 2nd length I was being tapped by some crazy tumble turner (could have been Hugh?). By the end 4 people had passed me twice. I finished almost exactly on 32 min, which I was fairly happy with.

The cycle
Much hillier than I remember, "what goes up must come down" I hear you say, but I was having to ride down the hills on my brakes because of the wet conditions. So all the pain of the uphill, without the pleasure of the down. Excellent scenery though, with a token couple of MTB's to boost my ego!

The run
Pretty wet and slippery, but I liked the 2 lap set up and the track finish.

All in all, a good days entertainment, local, and good to see everyone else there supporting.

I'd forgotten how much effort the Olympic distance is compared to a Sprint!

Well done Hugh, Vitruvian next! (I hope you beat that girl from Cambridge you were chatting up before the swim!)

================================

Hi team

Well, what can I say? I was rubbish! Next year I need to shave 4 seconds off Bath and 11 seconds off Tidworth if I’m to achieve sub 1:30 and sub 3:00. Now there’s a challenge.

I need a good swim coach. I’m getting something wrong and if anyone has noticed what it is then you need to tell me. I probably need to make my arms rotate faster, I’m a bit lazy, oh and I need to start using my feet.

I enjoyed the day, despite the torrential rain at 06:45 when I arrived. Like most triathlons people were friendly and chatty and fit and keen and nervous and serious and worried and intense and enthusiastic and all sorts of other things.

Like Steve there was a ‘ringer’ in my lane who was actually the girl who was chatting me up (Steve, point of clarification) . She passed me twice, great swimmer. But I passed her on one of those big up hills after the road works, traffic lights. I met another young lady who set a good pace for all but the last 3 minutes of the run. Clearly her 23 year old legs had more steam in them that my 48 year old ones. I did get a big hug from her at the end. (Her mum and dad did look at me in a strange way, especially when she raved on about me being the man, without whom she wouldn’t have finished!)

My top speed was 39mph (bike in case you need such clarification) and it was a bit frustrating going down a big big big big hill on brakes because the cars were slowing down for the lights and road works.

And finally. It was really hard. I don’t know how I’ll ever do the Vitruvian, but I’ll give it a go.

Hopefully see you all at the lake on Saturday.

Best wishes

Hugh
